Observations for 2024 August 19

With it pouring rain at midnight, didn't bother to head out, although it appears the conditions improved enough that the overnight Grand eruptions was seen on the webcam

So got out well after sunrise for the morning Grand eruption. No sign of a delay, so the interval to the One Burst Grand eruption was only about seven hours.

Decided that this might be a good day to try for a Beehive video. Turned out to be correct, as there was almost no one waiting for the eruption. All the little sputs around the cone were quiet. After about an hour of waiting, I thought that I was hearing some bubbling or a frying pan, but could see the source of the noise. About five minutes later the Indicator started erupting. The video turned out nicely, although my framing was a bit off with the Indicator.

In the afternoon walked up onto a Turban Delay interval. Unlike previous days, only had to wait for two Turban eruption intervals before the One Burst Grand eruption.

Went out for the sunset Castle eruption. Starting about 2-1/2 minutes into the eruption, Castle began to have significant pauses every 40-45 seconds or so. This continued until the ten minute mark, when a restart did not occur. For the next 2-1/2 minutes Castle was mostly quiet, with only occasional weak splashes. Then one of those splashes built up and the eruption resumed. It seemed like the transition to steam was delayed also.

Finally went out for the moonlit midnight Grand. There wasn't any Turban Delay, and the 7-1/2 hour interval put the One Burst Grand eruption start just before midnight.
