Observations for 2024 August 20

There wasn't a Turban Delay interval, but Grand still took nearly 2-1/2 hours after my arrival before sunrise to finally have the One Burst Eruption. For six Turban intervals, both the durations and the intervals got short so that the Grand eruption was less than 16 minutes after a Turban eruption lasting less than 3-1/2 minutes. Were fortunate to have Grand erupt when it did, as a thunderstorm moved in as we were leaving, with a downpour about twenty minutes later.

Ended up waiting less than two Turban eruption intervals before the next Grand eruption. The interval on which Grand eruption was almost a Turban Delay interval, but came about 25seconds short. It took Turban almost a minute to start its eruption. The first burst lasted 9m18s, and the pause between the bursts was short, at 21s. It also had a sort of two meter high boop before starting. It was a windy day, and my camera tripod tried to take flight on a couple of occasions.

Decided to kill some time at Riverside, but after about 15 minutes, got a radio call about Beehive's Indicator in eruption. As it had been less than twelve hours since the pre-sunrise eruption, decided to abandon Riverside and head to the Firehole River overlook. The Indicator lasted at least 27 minutes, and looked like we might be getting a False Indicator. Until the last five minutes or so, there was only some weak splashing from Beehive.

Grand could've taken the opportunity to erupt instead of having a Turban Delay interval. The moon had just risen above the trees, and it would have been nicely backlit. Instead it was six Turban intervals later, and after midnight, when Grand behaved like it was going to erupt. It wasn't a Turban Delay interval, as the interval was less than 22 minutes. For the next Turban eruption there was no overflow, as if it had been a Delay interval.

Grand finally had the One Burst Eruption on the eighth interval, lasting under 9-1/2 minutes. Uncertain was gurgling steadily as we left, but after being out that long, decided it didn't need me around in order to erupt.
