I was surprised to see that Suzanne was still out in the Cage at 03:30. It seems that after I left, nothing much happened. The last Bijou pause was short and weak around 01:30, and after that, only one Mastiff surge. So I headed back out with extra layers and batteries and arrived at around 04:00. It was cold and damp, but there was no wind and the rains had ended.

For the next two hours, nothing happened. There was no moon, so dark, but I can usually tell when a Mastiff surge starts. Also, after most events, Bijou will have a period of steamy roaring, and we never heard any of that.

At 06:14, we finally got a Mastiff surge. At 06:40, Bijou finally paused, one lasting only 1m46s and we couldn't see any water in Mastiff. Less than an hour later we got a much better pause. This time Bijou was quiet for 3m40s, and the Southwest Vents erupted enough to refresh the puddles around the vents.

Events started happening more frequently, with another 100 second pause an hour later.

I left before the next opportunity for an event to go to Grand. I arrived with West Triplet in eruption, and twenty minutes later there was a short Rift eruption lasting just over 1/2 hour.

I thought that would be a good sign, that the group could recover quickly. Instead, over the next 2-1/2 hours and next nine Turban eruptions, there was no sign of an attempt at Grand erupting.

The there was a nice fill, with waves and even bubbling in Vent. Then Grand dropped giving us a Vent Delay. Two Turban eruptions later, Grand attempted to have a normal Turban Delay, but came up short, but it seemed that the system there was going to treat it as a Delay. The One Burst Grand eruption finally took place three Turban eruption intervals later , right after West Triplet started to erupt, for a 11-1/2 hour Grand interval.

Back in the Cage, the events were fairly frequent, about every 75 minutes. There was a sameness to them, but with variations. The shortest was 2m45s, with the longest just over four minutes. Something the Southwest vents would behave as if they were about to start, other times there was only a spit or two. By the evening, Bijou was pausing before Mastiff started surging, and something Mastiff would retreat slightly before reaching a higher water level.

By dark, I decided to give up and get a good night's rest.

Waited for the rains to end before heading out for the morning Grand. West Triplet started erupting as I arrived, followed by Rift. That was when Grand had a late fill and a long Turban Delay Interval. Ended up having to wait two hours and six Turban eruption intervals before the One Burst Grand could occur. On leaving, I noticed that Belgian Pool was perhaps as high as I've seen it this visit, with water well into the side lobe.

Then it was back to the Bijou Cage, where a half hour after arrival we got a Mastiff Bathtub where Feather overflowed and pushed water, and water was seen in the Cave vent. The Southwest vents poured out water. This event lasted about 3-1/2 minutes.

Later that afternoon there was another Mastiff Bathtub where the pause lasted 4 minutes, but Feather only overflowed, and the Southwest vents didn't do much.

I did leave the Cage to go to Grand, where once again I got to see West Triplet erupt. It was a half hour later that Grand again had a Turban Delay Interval. But this time, it took only two Turban eruption intervals to lead to the One Burst Grand eruption. This one had a false pause lasting several seconds at around the eight minute mark, so not surprising that there wasn't a second burst.

Then it was back to the Cage, where nothing much happened, just some Mastiff surges and a single Bijou pause with Mastiff water barely visible. I finally left just after midnight.

I wanted to get out early, because Grand may have had a long interval, or to check on Giant. But the rains caused me to take my time getting ready and head out about an hour later than originally intended.

As it was, Grand hadn't erupted since our wet observations the night before, and I ended up waiting 1-1/2 hours in light rain before the eruption. The first burst lasted over 9-1/2 minutes, and it was so steamy I assumed that I wasn't seeing water and it was just a short eruption. So was surprised when after over a minute, we got a nice tall second burst, nicely visible as much of the runoff steam had gone away.

From there, it was down to the Bijou Cage. A Bijou pause started as I got to my bike, and was well over by the time I arrived.

Instead of leaving because there'd been an event, I decided to wait just in case something unusual happened. Over the next three hours there were a number of Mastiff surges, including a short, one minute long Bijou pause. Shortly after noon there was a three minute long Bijou pause that included Feather overflowing. After that, it was time to head in and have lunch and reconfigure, on the assumption that not much would happen in the next hour or so.

As it was, got to hear the best activity of the day on the radio in the cabin. During this pause, Feather surged as if it was trying to start erupting. I managed to get myself together and was just on the bike when the call that Mastiff had dropped and Bijou was on came. It was a bit of a relief to not have to bike fast down that trail in the middle of the day.

Went back to the cabin briefly, then headed back to the Cage. Over a couple of hours there were several Mastiff surges that had minimal water visible in Mastiff, but no pauses in Bijou.

After one of those events, I decided to go see Grand. I saw Turban start as I passed Chromatic, and the next Turban eruption interval was only about 16 minutes before we got a One Burst Grand eruption. This one started with about ten seconds of booping, and West Triplet erupted right after the end.

Back in the Cage, it was more Mastiff surges and Bijou not responding. Then at 18:15 Bijou finally stopped for about 2-1/2 minutes. Once again, there was activity in the Southwest Vents and Feather did show water.

After that, we waited four hours for the next pause, through a number of Mastiff surges. This time the pause was underway when we finally got lights on the Mastiff surge. It lasted nearly 4-1/2 minutes, with Southwest Vents pouring water down the embankment, and Feather overflowing nicely. The Vents continued even after Bijou restarted by roaring and the drop in Mastiff, which was almost at overflow.

At that point the Cage was abandoned by all.

With an empty crater and Turban erupting without Vent, I knew that Grand had had a short interval and erupted a while earlier. So it was down to the Bijou Cage as the rain started. Grotto was erupting as I walked past, and Rocket began as I got near the GIP.

Then ended up waiting an hour in intermittent showers until we got a Standard Bathtub that had a two minute Bijou pause. At that point it was time to head in for a bit. Of course the rains restated as I biked in.

When it was time to go out to Grand, I was greeted with Rift in eruption, and West Triplet drained and drying out. After half an hour, Rift also quit. An hour after that, Grand had a long Turban eruption interval for a Turban Delay.

By the time Rift ended, the rains had started. It wasn't too unpleasant, as there wasn't any wind, but hard enough that I never noticed that Castle had erupted until I heard the late steam. But after a couple of post-Delay Turban eruptions, the rain stopped and then the winds picked up. By the time that Grand had a second Turban Delay interval, they were strong out of the south, making it hard to see the pool or Turban. The long One Burst Grand started with what appeared to be a series of large boops, and I was never able to determine a start time on Turban.

Later in the afternoon, it was still breezy but the sun was occasionally making an appearance. I finally set up the camera in the Bijou Cage for the first time since Giant erupted. After an hour-and-a-half wait, I ended up catching a Standard Bathtub with Bijou not pausing.

Going out to Grand in the evening seemed like a good idea, but first I got to see and eruption of West Triplet, which ended without Grand erupting. Then the relatively nice weather turned wet, with a storm passing by. It was too late to make a run for it, and decided waiting it out was the better option than getting soaked by riding the bike back to the cabin.

After a couple of Turban eruption intervals, the rain stopped and the clouds disappeared, although there was a lot of lightning visible to the northwest. The next few Turban intervals were short, as was the One Burst Grand eruption.

It was well after dawn before I got out to the Bijou Cage. As I arrived, Rocket had a major eruption. That was followed by two hours of not much happening. At one point there was a big Mastiff surge, and I thought I might be seeing a bit of water through all the steam, and Bijou seemed a bit noisier afterwards, but that was it.

Went over to Grand. Today it was warmer and with a normal summer breeze, as opposed to the imitation Iceland winds of the past few days. There were just a series of Turban eruptions until we were approaching two hours, when West Triplet began to erupt. This eruption ended, and there wasn't a followup eruption of Grand. Instead, on the next Turban interval, we got a 30 minute Delay, with an explosive Grand start. The steam was such that I was unable to catch the start of Turban. When the burst ended, at first it looked like the pool had drained, but it came back and after nearly a minute long pause, we got a nice second burst, much taller than the first.

Back in the Cage, didn't have long to wait before a large Mastiff surge, one approaching two meters high. After a minute, water could be seen in Mastiff, but while Bijou did slow down a bit, it never came close to stopping. The Southwest Vents sputtered much more than their usual spits, and when Mastiff drained, Bijou had a nice roar.

With the long interval for Beehive, finally got over to Geyser Hill and make a Beehive video. Had to wait even longer, then we got a short Beehive's Indicator and a long Beehive eruption. The video was a success.

It was still light when I went out for the nighttime Grand eruption. The conditions were warm for the time of night, with no wind. West Triplet was erupting, and 25 minutes later Rift started. Rift erupted for just over an hour, and when it quit, Grand was having a strong overflow. The crescent moon had just set. The Turban interval was longer than usual, but not enough to be considered a Delay. Turban started fairly explosively, and Grand followed within seconds.

Went out to the Cage for an hour-and-a-half at dawn. Walked up on the start of Grotto, then saw nothing much, other than some well spaced small Mastiff surges and one episode of Catfish splashing. Bijou never paused, although it seemed like it might have been trying to roar when I saw Catfish.

After breakfast, went over to Grand, where Rift was once again in eruption. It must have been near start, as West Triplet was also erupting. Rift finally quit after an hour-and-a-half. Grand finally had the One Burst Eruption following a minimal Turban Delay Interval.

Then it was back to the Bijou Cage. Waited for two hours, and during that time Bijou never stopped. Once again, there were some well spaced Mastiff surges, and Catfish splashed a couple of times. Bijou finally paused about two hours after I had left.

(On the way to the Cage, at the bend in the biketrail near the river I encountered the better part of a flag-tour well off trail and all down by the river.)

Went out to the evening Grand with the expectation of seeing it in the dark. Instead, Grand actually cooperated, and the One Burst Eruption began about five minutes before sunset. If there had been a second burst, it would have only been illuminated at the top. West Triplet began erupting moments before Grand, but this eruption lasted only about 1-1/2 minutes. A second West Triplet eruption began during the Grand eruption. Did not wait to see if it resulted in a Rift eruption.

This day was much improved over the last few days. The wind was minimal, especially for the evening activity. The sky was completely clear for most of the day, and it felt much warmer than the upper 50s.

Going out at the 14 hour mark was excessively cold and excessively windy for the first half of September. Once the sun rose above the ridge, the cold did seem to moderate a bit.

West Triplet started to erupt as I arrived, and 45 minutes later, so did Rift. It was 2-1/2 hours from then that the One Burst Grand finally occurred. Once again, we got a fairly long interval without any observed delays.

From there, it was down to the Bijou Cage, much later than I expected, to start the wait for the next Giant eruption. For the first hour or so I was disappointed in the activity.

I witnessed several Bijou slowdowns or short pauses that seemed to have no effect on any other feature. Bijou's activity also seemed weak, and not as noisy. There wasn almost no depth charging from the front of Mastiff, and the back was having small to medium surges every few minutes. Catfish was intermittently spitting. The Southwest Vents were barely steaming, and through the wind noise, I couldn't hear any gurgling. The platform was extremely dry, including in front of Giant itself. And across the river, it seemed like there was increased runoff coming down from the Purple Pools.

Then on one of the Bijou pauses, it stayed off, and water was visible in Mastiff. The water slowly rose until it reached about 20cm below overflow. Bijou was paused for about 3m40s, and once it restarted, that's when there was some roaring and activity by the B-C vent. The end of the pause also resulted in some depth charging from front Mastiff. And then I left to get out of the wind and cold and have lunch.

The evening was a repeat of this morning's Grand wait, except I arrived to what was probably the Turban Delay Interval. Before the next Turban eruption, West Triplet started, and its eruption lasted over an hour. Forty-five minutes later, Rift started, and it seemed like the largest back vent was even more vigorous than usual.

The Rift eruption lasted almost an hour, and by then the sun had set. One more Turban eruption on an interval of less than 16 minutes, and then Grand was ready to erupt. The One Burst Grand was notable because at just under seven minutes, it had a False Pause that all of us watching the eruption thought was an actual pause, and were amazed to see a pause so early in an eruption. (With the thought of "we're gonna get multiple bursts") Instead, the eruption settled down into a weak Big Sawmill eruption that lasted over eleven minutes.

Also, it seems like some strange cult has invaded the geyser basins. They have this weird ritual where the hold a small slab in front of their faces, sometimes with both hands, and stare at it throughout a geyser eruption, deliberately avoiding looking at the geyser. As if the slab is intended as a protection to ward off evil emanating from the geyser. Sometimes a second person will face away from the geyser, and then block the slab from directly viewing the geyser while the blocker makes ridiculous poses and suspicious hand signals. Then at some point during the eruption, they drop the slab and walk away while the eruption is still in progress, never looking back. I think I heard that the slab is a representation of a holy relic called a "stultitia fabrica", which seems to translate into English as something like "stupidifier", but I can't be sure. But it's almost scary seeing all of them lined up like that along the boardwalk during a Grand eruption with their blank expressions.

Once again I waited less than a Turban eruption interval for the Grand eruption. It had lightened up quickly, and I was planning to set up the camera except the Grand eruption came first. I have now seen four eruptions of Grand with two bursts in the last four days, compared with seven over three weeks prior.

Attempted to see an eruption of Great Fountain again, without success. Were way too early and the winds were just beginning to start up, so returned.

Eventually headed out to Grand. The wind wasn't up to Iceland levels, but was still enough to make sure everything didn't blow away, and cooling enough to require a jacket. Arrive to an early eruption of West Triplet. When it ended without a Grand eruption, knew we were in for a long wait.

A fifteen Turban interval wait. The intervals slowly got shorter. At one point we had an interval of less than 15 minutes, only to be followed by a couple of intervals of more normal length.

West Triplet started erupting again, and Grand finally looked good early, and didn't drop. The One Burst Eruption tried to pause at around the eight minute mark, without success. Then after 9-1/2 minutes, we had a false pause, followed by a few more seconds of jetting from Grand.

An eruption of Rift followed, and I didn't wait around to get the duration of West Triplet, which by then was well over 45 minutes.

For double intervals on Grand, I've been trying to get out around the 14 hour mark. So I arrived at Grand about that time, finding West Triplet in eruption. Almost immediately there was a Turban eruption, followed by a long Turban eruption interval lasting over 30 minutes. The pool didn't drop but kept rising, and stayed high when Turban started to erupt. No Vent overflow, however, until a moment before the One Burst Grand Eruption started. It was steamy, but nicely backlit and visible from the north end of the walkway.

Saw the noontime Beehive eruption following the radio call. Was windy, but steady so after the initial dousing, no one got wet.

Later went out to Grand with the expectation of having to wait until dark. Instead it erupted on the first opportunity after my arrival. It was another One Burst Eruption, but being able to go back in and having the evening free and wind-free was nice.

And being set free, went over to Sawmill Group to wait for Uncertain. It took over an hour of waiting, but we were finally rewarded with a dual eruption with Sawmill.

Back in the cabin, I put together a response to a flag on the Giant eruption entry from the other night. It seems some of the NPS personnel objected to being officially called out on their behavior that night. I didn't post anything about that at the time, as I try to let such annoyances slide off me any more. Problem is that I was recording the eruption, and caught audio of them talking amongst themselves, laughing at some of the inappropriate things they had done or do. Here's what I posted in the comment--

Giant was such a spectacular eruption. I am glad everyone was able to experience the joy. Even if others want the natural beauty to themselves, as it seems by this interesting comment. It’s funny how many NPS employees were running that .9 down the bike path yet you drag everyone by saying these things. The two vehicles were ON DUTY, IN uniform pertinent NPS employees that are able to use this road. I am thankful we were all able to experience this amazing event together.

2) I recorded this eruption starting with the Mastiff surge, through the hot period, and the start of the eruption. I let the camera run until the battery finally ran out of power, about 75 minutes later. At one time when I went to check on the camera to see how much power was left I noticed a "gaggle of giddy" NPS employees gathered nearby in the Cage. There were at least a dozen, gathered in a circle, with few to none actually looking at the waning moments of the Giant eruption. I noticed no one in uniform, but it was dark and I didn't look specifically for that. I never did see anyone in uniform that night.

I ended up recording clear audio of them, so loud that it seemed to overwhelm the sound of the geyser at times. I also picked up a number of them loudly boasting, to laughter, of their sarcastic responses to visitors, to insulting visitors, to intentionally misleading visitors, and generally inappropriate or offensive behavior while performing their official duties. At this point, they were "experienc[ing] this amazing event" only because they were physically in the Cage, blocking others from enjoying the eruption due to their boorish behavior.

(Also note that they were there only due to the efforts of gazers, since the NPS will not allow access to their electronic recording devices.)

According to the recording timestamp, they arrived at this location by at least 21:50, 35 minutes into the Giant eruption, and stayed there the rest of the recording (22:17). I expect to capture conversations in the audio of my videos, but not for this length of time.

I said nothing at the time, but I was annoyed that their behavior was ruining my recorded audio of a rare and spectacular geyser eruption. It was an example of their inappropriate behaviors toward visitors in this national park. This behavior and the comments are especially inappropriate if coming from persons in uniform.

Didn't get much sleep during the night, as I was busy documenting and editing and uploading videos. When the video upload process showed it was going to take over 200 hours, I knew I needed to make the file a bit smaller. Five hours was much better, and it probably took less, as it was available to post during the night

By then it was getting light outside, so might as well head out to Grand, which was approaching 14 hours since the previously seen eruption. But first, I headed back to the Bijou Cage to document the locations of the various signs.

Finally got to Grand, just in time to catch the start of a West Triplet eruption. That was followed by a Turban Delay Interval, one where the heavy runoff didn't start until the 30 minute mark. The interval was so long that Rift started during the Turban eruption.

The West Triplet eruption lasted almost exactly an hour, and about a half hour later, Grand filled nicely on a long Turban eruption interval that resulted in a One Burst Eruption.

Tried to wait for Beehive after that, but it was so windy and miserable that most of the people waited decided to let someone else stay there. Which was why it appears that no one actually saw the start of the eruption of the Indicator, as everyone had left. The Beehive eruption was still nice, despite the wind.

At that point, there wasn't much to do around the basin, which meant it was a good day to take care of various housekeeping chores which had been postponed due to the waiting in the Bijou Cage.

Got back out to Grand just after the six hour mark. Immediately got a Turban Delay Interval eruption, which meant it was going to be a bit of a wait. Seven turban eruption intervals later, we got a second Delay Interval. By that time, it was getting stormy to the north, and the wind was making the whole wait as miserable as one on Geyser Hill. By this time, it had been over three hours without any activity from West Triplet. An hour later West Triplet started to erupt, but finished within a couple of minutes.

That seems to have been sufficient activity to qualify for the opening of the West Triplet window, as Grand finally erupted 20 minutes later. Grand's pool was full and having waves at the 13 minute mark when Turban started. Turban started out slow, then suddenly began acting like it does when Grand erupts. The second burst consisted of over two minutes of some of the smallest Big Sawmill activity I've seen in quite a while. Grand repeatedly looked like it was stopping, only to boil up a few meters high, then have some small jets.

Once again I got to walk up on a Turban Delay Interval, this time 14 hours after the eruption we saw the day before. Tuns out the interval wasn't horrible, and the Delay was only for three Turban eruptions.

That's when we got a nice steady fill in Grand, then a full pool with waves increasing in strength. The start was explosive, and Turban didn't start for nearly a minute. Even though the first burst lasted more than nine minutes, we got a second burst.

Midway through the first burst we started getting radio calls from the Bijou Cage announcing a Bijou pause where Feather was pulsating and overflowing. It made for a significant distraction from Grand's eruption.

Afterwards, Castle started to erupt, and when it didn't turn into a minor eruption, I waited around to watch the major eruption transition into steam.

Returned a few hours later to the Bijou Cage. Nothing much had happened since the last Bijou pause. On the Giant Platform, nothing much happened for the next 3-1/2 hours that I was there. Occasionally we'd get a Mastiff back vent surge followed by water just visible in Mastiff, other times just the Mastiff surge.

Midway through this wait, I glanced over to the south, and noticed a lot of steam coming from Oblong. It was windy, so the steam wasn't rising above the trees, but instead extended to the left over the river. We were seeing the first eruption of Oblong in several days.

I headed over to Grand when its eruption window opened, and saw some Turban eruptions. The third turned into a Delay Interval, and when Turban finally erupted, I turned my attention to tying down my camera tripod, which had moments earlier tried to fall over because of the wind. So I was distracted when Grand started to erupt 1-1/2 minutes later.

Around the 8-1/2 minute mark, there was a false pause and long slowdown in Grand. I figured it was going into Big Sawmill mode and we'd get only a single burst. Instead, after a half minute, Grand quit, and we got a second burst.

After that, it was back to the Bijou Cage. By this time, it had been seven hours since the last Bijou pause. The only time a length of time like that, without a pause, had been seen had been just before the previous Giant eruption. So it was time to prepare for a long wait. After an hour and a half, I made a quick trip back to the cabin to reconfigure for a nighttime wait.

All during this wait Mastiff would have a surge every 30 minutes or so. Most of the times, Bijou would roar and Catfish splash about three or four minutes later.

Finally, just after 21:00, we got the first Bijou pause in eleven hours. It took a while for Mastiff to show water, and the event proceeded as a Standard Bathtub until Feather filled and started to push water at about 4-1/2 minutes. Almost immediately, Feather started to erupt, and Mastiff overflowed. This was unlike any activity seen since 2018. At this point, the Hot Period behaved much like those of that year. One by one, various vents started to show activity, and Giant began to surge more powerfully.

Ten minutes after Bijou had paused, Bijou began to roar as Mastiff dropped. A minute later, Giant erupted.

I was in the Cage near the benches, and got soaked repeatedly by hot water and hot steam. I made a hasty exit, leaving my pack behind. There were multiple bright lights, so the eruption was easily visible. Ben Vanderlay got a height at the start of 215ft.

As the eruption progressed, more and more people began to appear on both the walkway from Oblong and along the bike trail. At least one NPS vehicle drove down the bike trail, and by then there was a crowd of 30-40 people gathered in the Cage and along the boardwalk.

I recorded the entire start of the Hot Period and most of the Giant eruption, until the battery was drained, for about an hour of video. The timestamps on the Hot Period portion show most of the activity matching the times in my notes. Once the eruption started, the video doesn't show much, because the wind was blowing steam and spray toward the camera, and it seems the camera had a hard time processing what was going on, especially with the sound.

The video is available in a separate posting. It only took 5 hours to process and upload it from the cabin.

This morning it was Grand in eruption as I arrived at Castle. It was foggy, so I could only hear the eruption. Went over and arrived at Rift just in time for the One Burst Eruption to end. West Triplet was in eruption, also. It must have been near the start, as it was reported in eruption again an hour later, with Rift also erupting.

Returned later to the Bijou Cage. For hour-and-a-half we didn't see anything happen, although Feather appeared to be full and just below overflow. Then we got a large Mastiff surge followed by splashing in the Southwest Vents. Feather did overflow slightly during this time, and the Southwest Vents put out enough water to fill the depressions surrounding the vents and to start flowing down the front slope. The water level in Mastiff rose to about the highest I've seen yet, down maybe 10cm. But Bijou never paused, but did roar after Mastiff dropped.

Another hour-and-a-half later with nothing happening at Giant, I transferred over to Grand. Immediately I got to experience a Turban Delay Interval. Two Turban intervals later, there was a second Delay Interval. After another hour, West Triplet finally erupted, but finished erupting with no associated Grand eruption. On the eighth Turban eruption after the second Delay Interval, we got a third.

It took four more Turban Intervals before we finally got the One Burst Grand eruption, for an interval of over eleven hours. West Triplet started another eruption during Grand, exactly three hours after the previous eruption.

Did go back out to the Bijou Cage at sunset, and again spent two hours seeing nothing much happen, when prior to my return there had been a couple of Bijou paused observed.

I woke up at 05:45 with the intention of going out to Grand if it hadn't erupted, or going back to sleep. Didn't feel a need to go to the Bijou Cage as there were others who were out and about that early. I started to get ready, then saw a webam report of Grand in eruption at 05:50. So it was get unready and sleep in for a few more hours.

Did get out to the Cage around 09:30, after making breakfast. Spent a couple of hours there, and saw first a Mastiff Bathtub where Bijou didn't shut off. The surging from Mastiff at the start was at least two meters high.

Then almost two hours later there was another Mastiff fill without Bijou stopping, this time with some Feather overflow. At that point it was time to head to Grand.

At Grand, the first Turban interval I saw was a Delay Interval lasting over 35 minutes. Between the following fourth and fifth Turban eruptions, I saw a single splash from West Triplet. Then minutes later, after the fifth Turban, West Triplet started a real eruption. This time Grand followed up with its One Burst Eruption. After Grand erupted, I waited to see if West Triplet would be followed by Rift, and it was.

In the process of heading back to the Bijou Cage, I heard the radio call for Beehive's Indicator. It was a cool, sunny and windy day, and there was already a crowd on Geyser Hill thanks to an eruption of Old Faithful that had just ended. I watched the eruption from the bike trail between Lower Ham's and the Inn parking lot. The wind shifted a couple of times, and the screams of the people being inundated could easily be heard over the wind noise. Beehive itself was barely audible.

Back at the Cage, nothing much happened for about 90 minutes. Finally we noticed Bijou slowing down, then completely off, before Mastiff began some large surges. After about a minute, the Southwest vents spit a couple of times, so it appeared that we were going to get another Standard Bathtub. Then water became visible in Feather and the Southwest Vents began erupting from three vents and putting water down the slope and filling nearby puddles. The roaring from Bijou at the end seemed stronger than usual, too.

Went back out to the Cage before sunset. As far as is known, nothing had happend since the earlier event. Stayed out until midnight, and during that time there were only two minor events. In both cases, four hours apart, Bijou never shut down, and in the dark, we couldn't see water level in Mastiff. We only knew of the end when Bijou started to roar.

Was not originally intending to wait that late in the Cage. Instead intended to go to Grand around the 7-1/2 mark. Instead we saw the large steamcloud of Grand around the 6h45m mark (2130ie).

At one point in the Grand wait, there was some applause at the end of an eruption of Turban. I looked over, and it was a group of about five young men. They then got up and left, speaking what I believe was German as they passed me. From that, I assume that their applause was supposed to be ironic, and they thought Turban was actually Grand.

Once again it was out to the Bijou Cage at dawn to see what had transpired overnight. It wasn't possible to tell, as it had rained a few hours earlier.

The day started out cold and overcast and blustery, and by mid-morning was cold and sunny and blustery. Probably the most unpleasant day so far this visit.

In the Cage, there was a Standard Bathtub shortly after I arrived, and there was another about an hour later. All through the day the occurred one to two hours apart.

At Grand, there was a nearly ten hour interval, this time without a Turban Delay Interval. The whole time West Triplet was quiet, but West Triplet began erupting during the Grand eruption, which like yesterday's long interval eruption, had two bursts.

Later sessions in the Bijou Cage yielded some Standard Bathtubs and an event where Mastiff showed water but Bijou never shut off. It's looking like things at Giant may have stabilized, which means either no eruption for a while, or an eruption getting ready.

Decided it was a good night to not go out to Grand until later in the window. So I was at Crested Pool when the 7-1/2 hour interval One Burst Eruption started. West Triplet was also in eruption by the end of Grand's eruption.

Vent & Turban continue

On the way back last night, in the dark I noticed large puddles of water near my cabin. Steaming puddles. It seems a new hot spring broke out next to Cabin #230 across from us, and was flooding the area. Because of this, the cabin area had no hot water until the repairs were done today.

Last night's fiasco seems to have shifted Grand into a mode where it will have only one eruption in good daylight, and two in the dark or without sun. But it was a bit of a relief to see that because it erupted about the time I woke up, I wouldn't need to wait for it.

Arrived at the Bijou Cage as it was starting to get light. It was also quite foggy. At times difficult to see if Bijou was actually erupting, so had to go by sound. Waited well over an hour and a half with only some good sized Masfiff surges. Shortly after Rocket had a major eruption we finally got a 3m00s Standard Bathtub, with some water visible in Feather and a bit more splashing that usual from the Southwest Vents.

A Standard Bathtub consists of a large surge from Mastiff's back vent, followed by a pause by Bijou. This pause lasts about three minutes, give or take twenty seconds or so. A different length is notable. Water in front Mastiff rises to about 10 to 20 cm below the rim for most of the pause. The Southwest Vents will spit briefly. After Bijou restarts, Catfish and the B-C Vent will also splash, and then Bijou will have a brief period of roaring. This behavior was fairly consistent before the last eruption, and has been common since.

Returned to Grand with the expectation of an afternoon eruption. After about an hour and a half, there was the first documented Giant Hot Period, with a short eruption of Feather Geyser, but no overflow from Mastiff. At that point I'd rather be down in the Cage, but figured it would be a few hours until the next event there, so I'd have plenty of time to see Grand and then get down that way. Instead, there was a Turban Delay Interval.

And at that point, for the next three hours, Grand showed no signs of trying to erupt. After two hours, we got an eruption of West Triplet, but when it ended and Grand didn't erupt at the next opportunity, I decided that I'd rather be in the Cage and left.

Down at the Bijou Cage, there were some Bijou pauses, but no water was visible in Mastiff at any time. After four hours, in the dark we finally got a Standard Bathtub that lasted for 4m44s but didn't have any Southwest Vents spitting. At that point, everyone abandoned the Cage.

On the way back, I did stop briefly to watch an illuminated Castle eruption turning to steam.
