Observations for 2022 August 20

Saw Oblong erupting while walking through the Sawmill Group headed for Grand. At Grand, waited a couple of Turban intervals, and then got the Turban Delay Interval. Took Grand three more intervals to recover and give us the One Burst Eruption of the morning.

Went on down to Fan & Mortar. Arrived as the Fan vents were getting quiet. Upper Mortar was rumbling a bit. And I saw some steam from the Lower Mortar frying pans.

A few minutes later all the Fan vents were quiet, including Angle. Except for a brief series of splashes a couple of minutes later, Angle stayed off for the next 52 minutes.

About a half hour after the vent went quiet, Bottom started splashing, and it could even be considered to be in a weak eruption. The runoff channel near the vent got wet during that time.

Shortly after that, River came on, and a couple of minutes later High and Gold came on strong. Five minutes later, Angle joined in. Twenty minutes after that, all the vents seemed to shut down, and Angle was still quiet when I left ten minutes later.

For the first time this year, I saw an actual normal cycle, and Angle quiet for more than a minute or two. Since it's been well over 2-1/2 days since the previous eruption, this fits in with the belief that they have recovered and have the potential for more eruptions.

Once again, Oblong erupted right as I arrived at Grand. The wait was another one of those cases where the Turban eruption durations and intervals slowly decrease. This time, the interval only had to get to 17-1/2 minutes before Grand would erupt. Sometimes it waits until Turban's interval gets near 16 minutes.

Even though the first burst lasted 9-1/2 minutes, which is more than long enough for a One Burst Eruption, we got a second burst. The water in Grand's crater sloshed about for almost a minute.
